Public Decisions Database

This database contains decisions on all public judicial disciplinary cases since the inception of the commission in 1960. Cases not involving public charges or public discipline remain confidential under the California Constitution and the commission’s rules.

Pursuant to amendments to the Constitution, which took effect in March 1995, the commission is authorized to impose all disciplinary sanctions, subject to discretionary review by the Supreme Court. Prior to that, the Supreme Court had the authority to censure or remove judges from office upon recommendation by the commission.

Summary Judge Bradley was twice convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol; during the judge's arrests, he invoked his judicial office, sought special treatment and was untruthful. The judge also drove under the influence of alcohol on another occasion that was not charged criminally, and rode a bicycle under the influence of alcohol. Additionally, the judge was under the influence of alcohol while on duty at court. Judge Bradley also made threatening remarks concerning a deputy district attorney who was dating the judge's estranged wife, broke into his wife's home at night while under the influence of alcohol and refused to leave, and violated the conditions of his probation and the terms of an emergency protective order that prohibited him from contacting his wife. At the time of the commission's decision, the judge's term of office had expired without the judge seeking reelection.
